Guaranteeing Access to the Arts
WHAT IS LIFT EVERY STUDENT
Lift Every Student is a collaboration between Any Given Child Jacksonville, the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, and Duval County Public Schools. The initiative innovates K-8 teaching through arts integration, a teaching method where students utilize creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication, collectively known as 21st century skills, to exhibit their understanding of reading, math, science, or social studies through music, dance, drama, or visual art. This method:
Artists from Jacksonville, Florida are selected to work extensively with arts integration specialists and DCPS faculty to develop residency plans that teach non-arts subjects through the creative process. Artists and appointed teachers co-teach arts integration plans that are then implemented in the classroom for 10-week sessions. During this period, both artists and teachers receive ongoing arts integration training and development.
Criteria for artists:
Candidates will be subject to a background check.
- Improves students’ communication skills
- Nurtures differentiated learning modes
- Sharpens critical thinking
- Develops students’ practice of judgment
- Encourages imaginative problem solving
- Intensifies skills of observation
- Fosters teamwork and collaboration

- Degree from a post-secondary institution in their arts discipline
- A body of work that demonstrates excellence and a understanding of process in their arts discipline
- A passion for incorporating arts integrated instruction into the classroom
- Experience working with youth
- A willingness to be flexible and adaptive
